Social Media and Marketing Intern (Paid)

Immediate Supervisor: Co-founder

Position & Company Overview 

This is an exciting long-term, part-time (10-20 hours a week) position with a broad range of marketing responsibilities and learning experiences. Responsibilities include writing creative content for a2z’s marketing and public relations projects.

a2z, Inc. is a world leader in the development of event management software used by over 600 show organizers worldwide to manage and market their trade shows and expos – including over four dozen of the Top-200 shows in the U.S. a2z has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing private companies by Inc. Magazine for the last 3 consecutive years.

Job Responsibilities (in no particular order): 

  • Create and distribute press releases for the corporate PR and promotional campaigns 
  • Create and update corporate website content
  • Write content for website, blogs, social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn

Experience Required

  • Primarily working toward a degree in business marketing or journalism o This is a long-term internship – preferable not less than one calendar year
  • Must have a thorough understanding of proper Netiquette when sending mass e-mail and when using social media platforms.
  • Public relations experience is a big plus.
  • Experience in copywriting • Blogging experience (Wordpress a plus)
  • Familiarity with social networks and social bookmarking (Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Delicious, Digg)
  • Keeping up with social media technology and news • Understanding of how and why brands use social media

Skills

  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines are a must
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Self-driven to achieve goals; high energy level is essential, strong, dedicated work ethic
  • Strong attention to detail

Project Support Specialist Intern (Paid)

We are looking for high-energy individuals to join us in the role of Project Support Specialist Intern, working as an important part of our Project Teams. The position involves hands-on execution and managing the technical aspects of our product deployments. This is definitely a roll-up-your-sleeves-and-work internship, so you won’t just be the office “go-fer”. Our past interns say “you’ll have fun here,” and we think you’ll find the work at a2z to be both challenging and exciting. Best of all, a successful internship could possibly lead to a permanent position – a number of our interns have chosen to join us full-time.

What General Qualifications You Should Possess:

  • Information Systems, Computer Science, or related major
  • Good writing skills - technical & business subjects
  • Ability to multi-task successfully • Excellent attention to detail; strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
  • Live within a comfortable commuting distance from our Columbia, Maryland office

Technical Skills You’ll Need:

  • Familiarity with database applications, HTML
  • Experience with Systems Design, .NET, Active Server pages, Databases, CAD (Computer Aided Design) and Photoshop a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Teams with projects and maintain high level Project plan
  • Set up and configure all aspects of complete systems with guidance from the Project Manager
  • Test systems prior to delivery
  • Troubleshoot and investigate technical issues
  • Test new product releases
  • Maintain a high level of up-to-date product knowledge

In this position you’ll learn to:

  • Identify cross functional project resources and manage their deliverables
  • Develop and recommend functional solutions
  • Test software applications
  • Write business requirements documents
  • Generate new ideas and novel ways to implement the ideas
  • Juggle multiple projects and manage resources in a deadline-driven production environment
  • Estimate completion times for project milestones and other assigned tasks
  • Keep projects on schedule, ensuring milestones are met, and changes in schedule or project scope are documented, communicated to, and approved by the client, your team, and senior management

Web Graphic Design Intern (Paid)

Where

a2z, Inc. is located in Columbia, Maryland. Occasional telecommuting is permitted, but candidates should live within a comfortable commuting distance from Columbia, MD and plan to be in the office during scheduled hours.

What

Responsibilities

  • Visualizing web site interface design
  • Designing interactive web pages
  • Web site content management

Qualifications

  • Undergrad with major in digital design, advertising or fine arts
  • Experience designing web sites, applications and animations
  • Must be proficient in writing web pages in HTML and CSS
  • Working knowledge of JS and Flash
  • Experience with graphic design software such as PhotoShop and Illustrator
  • Good understanding of color theory and design concepts
  • Awareness of browser compatibility issues and testing
  • Awareness of web usability methodologies (desired but not absolutely required)
  • Must be comfortable in a team-oriented work environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States part-time for any employer
